The week started off pretty good. On Tuesday, I went to the Walk In Clinic to get some blood work done and another urine test for my kidney function - or lack of function and to "beg" for some more pain meds for my arthritis, fibro, carpel tunnel and kidney pain. Anyhow, I had to argue for the lab work. I managed to get the requisition for it and my script for the meds.

After the Clinic, I went to Zellers and picked up a "few" things and to get my script filled for my pain meds. I picked up a lovely comforter for $24.00 which was regular $99.99. I also bought a student's chair for my puter. Naturally, I picked out some goodies for the kiddies and picked Michael up a collector's edition of the Beverly Hillbillies. The case that it came in was cool in itself. It looks something like the old lunch boxes that we had when we were kids. rolmao Michael loved it.

On Wednesday, I went grocery shopping. What a joy that was. Fortunately, everyone knows me at the grocery store, so they are really kind to me and very helpful.

Thursday, I received a telephone call from the Nurse of the Doctor that requisitioned the tests for the lab. She told me that I have to come back in two weeks for more tests. I was sleeping when she called, so about fifteen minutes later, I made my way out to the livingroom and called the clinic back. Finally after about five minutes, I had the Nurse on the telephone. I asked her about urine tests. She said that there was blood in the urine -- like I never knew that. I asked her about the blood work. She said: "Oh, your sugar level 9.6" I asked her does that mean that I am diabetic? She replied: "Isn't your family doctor treating your Diabetes?" I had to tell her once again that I do not have a family doctor. Also, it is listed on the computer screen in front of her that I do not have a family doctor. She continued: "You know, you need to keep an eye on your diabetes." Hello Lady! Anybody home? I don't have a family doctor because according to the doctors in this city, I am too sick to have a doctor.

So, apparently I am diabetic and have been for some time.

I see my Internist in two and half weeks and trust me, I am going to be raising hell.

I have now put myself on a diabetic diet. Thankfully, the Internet is full of information.

Okay, for some bittersweet good news - I was on another site Friday night and discovered that biologically, I am going to have another grandchild. I say biologically because as some of you know, I will never see my Grandbaby - family issues that are too painful to go into. My Son's Woman is 3 1/2 months pregnant. I wish all them well and pray that everything will be fine with Mother and Baby.

On a happy and positive note, Michael and I are just about finished putting our home together. Ironically, we moved in here on March 1 of last year. I must admit, that everything is looking fantastic.

So, that's been my week.

Ok I will do my best to explain to you how you should read these labels when you are shopping for your food! You want to watch your CARBS as this is what your body turns into sugar for energy. 15 gr of carbs is considered 1 serving. For breakfast you should have 45 grams of carbs. Any snacks you have should be limited to 15 grams of carbs.Lunch is 45 - 60 grams of carbs. Supper 45-60 grams of carbs.remember to eat at the same time each day!! Any fiber can be subtracted from the carbs ... so if it says 24 carbs and underneath is also states there are 5 fiber you subtract 5 from 24 which is 19 carbs in total actually. You should also limit your fat intake to no more then 2.5 grams of fat per serving.
Do not get discouraged it will take time to find things that are actually in the range of carbs & fat that you want... I was beginning to think it was a total loss until I became familar with the labels. My husband eat special k every morning with a yogurt, thems seems to satisfy him until snack time. Any coffee you drink should be sugar free(or limited to a small amount of sweetner) with milk if you wish. It took him a few weeks to get use to eating at the same time each day. Watch your serving sizes and be patient to as you might feel hungry until your body adapts to getting use to the proper eating habits you are aqquiring.
Hope that helps out a bit any questions just ask!

Another thing I just remembered is that your eye examinations will be free if you are diagnosed as a diabetic!
